Banksters demand, "No Free Speech for mortgage!"

According to BusinessWeek, Bank of America is pushing back when offering loan modifications to people who are complaining publicly. The catch is the borrower must stay quiet and remove any previous criticisms of the bank from public records, like tweets or facebook. According to one borrower the bank included this language, "The borrower "will remove and delete any online statements regarding this dispute, including, without limitation, postings on Facebook, Twitter and similar websites," and not make any statements "that defame, disparage or in any way criticize" the bank's reputation, practices or conduct, according to documents filed in state court in Phoenix."

TSA, "May I touch your junk please?"

Right now - at this very moment - someone is getting on an airplane with a condom full of heroin or cocaine shoved up some hole in their body. That's happening right now - as we speak. And TSA security has no chance of finding it - none at all...unless they want to bust out the KY and latex gloves. But think about this - that balloon could just as easily be filled with C-4 plastic explosive instead of heroin. And once that person is on the plane - he could go in the bathroom - pull out the balloon - and...you can imagine what would happen. And like the drugs - TSA Security has no chance of finding the explosives. That's because those high-tech X-ray scanners that are in airports all around the nation shooting doses of radiation at us and displaying our nude bodies to TSA agents only look at the outside of our bodies. They are not keeping us safe from a terrorist attack. So why the hell are we using them? Because we're scared stupid. We're scared stupid because Bush and Cheney made us that way after 9/11. We got hit pretty bad - but instead of telling Americans that we'll be ok - and we'll come out of this stronger than before - Bush and Cheney freaked out - and so did the rest of the nation. Instead of treating it like the crime it was - and working with our allies to find those who committed it and bring them to justice in the same way Clinton brought Tim McVeign to justice - we went on the warpath. We started a war in Afghanistan that we're still fighting today - we ...

What effect do SuperPacs have on TV Broadcasters?

Craig Aaron, Free Press.net joins Thom Hartmann. After Americans saw over $300 million in outside corporate cash flood the 2010 midterm elections - we know full well who benefited the most from the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision. And that was the Republican Party and their deep-pocketed corporate donors. Meanwhile - average Americans who don't have as much money - and therefore don't have as much speech, according to the Supreme Court - are screwed. But what no one seems to be talking about is who else stands to gain from the Citizens United decision...and that's commercial TV Broadcasters. After all - all these SuperPAC's need to pay TV broadcasters to air their negative ads and hit-piece documentaries. And already - we've seen more than 12 million bucks spent on TV advertising during the Iowa Caucuses - and 14 million bucks last week in the South Carolina primary. So what effect do corporate SuperPACS handing huge amounts of money to commercial TV broadcasters have on that branch of the Fourth Estate, and on our democracy?

Geeky Science! Magic Mushrooms & Depression

On tonight's Geeky Science segment...We all know how magic mushrooms made the 1960's a big colorful blur. But what is new research showing us about their possible beneficial effects? A new report in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science suggests that the key ingredient in magic mushrooms, psilocybin, may be the perfect aid for certain mental disorders.

Desmond Tutu calls for a Revolution for Women

Lauren Lyster, Host-The Capital Account joins Thom Hartmann. Bishop Desmond Tutu told those at the World Economic Forum that it's time for a revolution of women in the world economy. How'd the world's wealthiest react to his call, and what else are the corporate elite up to in Davos?

Occupy G8/NATO Summit collides wAdbusters

Adbusters - the organization that put out the initial call for an occupation of Wall Street back in September of last year - now has its eyes set on Chicago. The G8 and NATO are scheduled to hold a summit in Chicago during the first week of May - and Adbusters is calling on 50000 people from around the planet to set up tents and occupy the city in hopes of pulling off the "biggest multinational occupation of a summit meeting the world has ever seen." The list of demands Adbusters is promoting include a Robin Hood Tax - essentially a tax on stock trades - a ban on high frequency 'flash' trading - a binding climate change accord - and a three strikes and you're out law for corporate criminals. Adbusters is calling on demonstrators to "bring a tent." Of course the Occupy Chicago movement has been thriving for months now - without Adbusters - and plans have already been made for similar demonstrations against the G8 and NATO. So to many - Adbusters call for action in Chicago - is ruffling some feathers of others within the Occupy Movement. Joining Thom Hartmann from New York for more on this story is JA Myerson - journalist and contributor to Truthout - and participant in the Occupy Wall Street movement.

A legal nuclear bomb dropped on Walker today

John Nichols, The Nation Magazine joins Thom Hartmann. On Wednesday night Gov. Walker had to face the people of Wisconsin to give his annual State of the State address - and let's just say that didn't go so well either. And then this morning, a legal nuclear bomb dropped on Walker.

Reagan is not God!

The ghost of Ronald Reagan has returned to haunt Newt Gingrich. If things keep going at this rate, there won't just be four podiums and four candidates on stage at the next debate in Florida. There will be a fifth podium - with a mummified Reagan propped up against it. Because to Republicans, Ronald Reagan is a God - he is the man by which all their policies should be measured against - HE is the ultimate Conservative that all candidates should strive to be. But what's lost in all this Reagan-worshipping and idolatry is Reagan's ACTUAL record as President. And when that's examined - when we take a look at what Reagan ACTUALLY did in the White House - you REALLY have to question the wisdom of today's Republican Party and their reliance on the Reagan litmus test...Let's take a look back at what Reagan ACTUALLY did...some that puts Reagan to the left of even Barack Obama!
