the withdrawing from Afghanistan cannot be overstated. And we must remember and created common understanding that Afghanistan is Viet Nam. Not in the sense of comparing the two wars, but it understanding it is the same war of the perpetual war or endless war idea that the Pentagon and Military Industrial Complex depends on for existence.
The citizens get warn out by struggling to get the troops brought home from one war only to be brought into the next by whatever contrivance. Warming up for Iran is the next. Any pretext from the standard "they are bad evil etc. " tool box will do.
The real need is to end the militarism. Unlikely i know. It is the only thing we export with any vigor and it's destroying us .

The United States has no option but to withdraw since it's illegal to fight a real war against guerrillas (aka the complete eradication of the Afghan population).
I love how nobody in any of these threads ever bother to find out what's really going on in Afghanistan. All you guys do is thread hop from one thread to another screaming:
Graveyard of Empires! Illegal War! Run away! Those poor Afghan people! War over oil! This is Vietnam!
Did I miss one?
One? More like hundreds and each one more legitimate than the previous.
A Group, genuinely interested in getting to the bottom of what has been going on in Afghanistan since the Fall of 2001, need only to do an impassionate forensic examination of the documents from that period.
One small subset of the total available documentation from that period is the so-called Wiki-Leaks (WL) set.
One (of many) forensic methods is to review databases for evidence of tampering. As it turns out, the set made available through WL shows that there were many deletions over time. Records in a sequential file, should be in chronological order. If someone deletes a record, it leaves a hole, which is filled when the next record is written.
Although this does not tell one what the deleted record contained, it provides two pieces of information: A window into when the deletion was done (time span between the previous and following record) and the eventual determination of the party doing the deleting.
In general, adding a record is a minimal security level task; changing a record (if allowed at all) requires a higher level; and, for obvious reasons, deleting records requires managerial-level authorization.
Even if a change/delete log is mysteriously missing or unavailable, cross-referencing the list of timestamps with the list of authorized and active on system will yield a very short list.
So, if there is a sincere desire, there are ways to know. And maybe somebody already did this (or something similar) and maybe the proceeds of that examination (tedious and time-consuming) has more to do with the recent change in Afghanistan personnel than anything else.
The WL stuff takes away the disingenuous PR Firm "couple of bad apples" excuses which would otherwise have proffered as various stories come to light. It has not, as of yet, led to any criminal prosecutions of the Murderers, Rapists, Thieves, Torturers, etc.
But rather, in New American fashion, prosecution is only being pursued against those that sought to bring the truth to us.
