 In the name of saving children from candy-flavored methamphetamine, the U.S. appears on the verge of mandating more than a year in jail for anyone who cooks up a batch of pot brownies.

A bill by California Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein that has recently reached the Senate floor has cannabis advocacy groups concerned that potent, medical-grade edible products would become a higher crime carrying weighter sentences, ostensibly to protect children from ingesting strawberry-flavored meth.

<snip>

Cannabis advocacy blog "Toke of the Town" retorted: "Since there is no national trend toward lacing candy and other edibles with meth or any other drug besides cannabis, this bill clearly targets legitimate medical marijuana dispensaries, caregivers and patients in states that have legalized it as medicine."

She is opposed to legalizing

She is opposed to legalizing marijuana in California (current growers must contribute a lot to her campaigns).   The proposition shows a growing amount of support and I suspect her and even Jerry Brown coming out against it actually results in more support.  Obviously if pot were legal then it won't matter what form it is in.  You can buy candies with booze in them so why not marijuana?

Let's not waste time on such silly legislation when there are more pressing issues for the US.

if you want to prevent

if you want to prevent putting meth in candy then why pursue a law focusing on pot?

And we should be spending

And we should be spending time on why people use meth in the first place.  Not much done in that area.  BTW Ephedra grows wild all over the US.  It's also called "desert tea" or "Mormon tea."   Ephedrine is synthetic Ephedra.  You can't make meth from the herb however.   Seems that most of the country wants depressants like alchohol to calm down while their is a minority that needs stimulants so they don't drag all the time.   Of course if coffee were discovered today it would probably be an illegal stimulant too.
