Michael Pollan said it - it's absolutely true. I get tired of the carb bashing, even from Thom yesterday. Plants are mostly carbs - if you want to bash something, bash simple carbs and processed food. Carbs should not be a dirty word. Thom, you are a vegetarian, please don't bash carbs.
What's really crazy is the focus on eating fats and protein. Last time I checked, I didn't have claws or fangs and my jaw was able to move from side to side. We are bound to see HUGE increases in heart disease and cancers in the coming years from this eating trend. It is not what we are meant to eat.
Eat whole foods and use animal products rarely or never and live good.

Do you understand that people have different metabolisms? There are "generally" three types: fast metabolisms, slow metablisms and mixed (sort of in the middle). These require different diets of they will get sick. Carbs are good for the slow metabolizers because it helps increase the metabolism. Protein is better for the fast metabolizer. Fat metabolization also veries the metabolic types. Some people can eat fat and not have any increase in tryglycerides or cholesterol. I've known a number of people who can not give up animal products entirely without getting sick. It is part of their genetic makeup.
I'm BBQing thick New Yorks tonight. Ceasar salad and a bottle of good Merlot to compliment.
I was meant to eat these things. It is my destiny. (until deer season)
Eat real foods. It's all the chemical additives, preservatives, drugs, dyes, etc. and chemicals used in production and processing that create most of the problems. slabmasters deer meat is good stuff when it comes from a well stewarded environment. Good hunting is about taking the extra males that naturally would end up being taken down by wolves, coyotes, disease etc. when shunned from the herd.

Sounds more like it is your DENSITY to me. Here's hoping you choke on some gristle, that way I won't have to pay so much to keep you alive when your heart is failing and your tumors are growing.

Sounds like the different diets for different blood types BS you hear about. That is a silly argument you make about metabolism. The 3 meta diets. Wow, good one.

The cows we eat are locally grown (2 miles away) and I know the rancher, what he feeds them, and how they are raised. As "organic" as they come. Never had this good of meat. We hunt primarily in eastern WA on private property and Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Texas and Oregon. Some public, some private. Mature bucks are the most sought after, but overpopulations of does require culling. It's much better to thin out populations than let them starve or be slaughtered and wasted.
No finer fuel for the body than good venison. Elk and deer.

Heard this type of comment a million times. It's the 'hey look at macho me' comment. You won't look so macho when you're 60 or so and unable to do anything but perhaps golf, in an electric cart. Compare that to a vegetarian senior thats running a marathon and not on medication. Then who looks like a real man, huh? The fat cholesterol laden slob who can't walk a flight of stairs? Yeah, that's a real man.

The cuts for tonight are tenderloin. Not much in the way of gristle. I'm thinkin of a good cigar afterwards around the campfire.....Rocky Patel maybe....

More and more studies are pointing out the health benefits of paleo diets. You might want to look at some nutrition sites that are keeping up with scientific advances. Check out http://www.marksdailyapple.com/, http://conditioningresearch.blogspot.com/, http://thefitcast.com/, http://www.leangains.com/, (the granddaddy of them all) Art Devany's blog (http://www.arthurdevany.com/).
Interesting fact: there are essential fatty acids and essential amino acids, but there is no such thing as an essential carbohydrate. Your body can run on fatty acids and synthesize the glycogen it needs for the brain (the brain is a carb-hog!)
There is a lot of research going on around intermittent fasting. Many are concluding that optimum nutrition is less about macro-nutrient balance than macro-nutrient timing. When you eat what you eat relative to your workouts seems to have a big impact on body composition.

Nope, it's not about the blood types. The concepts of metabolic types have existed for centuries in Asian medicine. It is western medicine that is way behind the curve on this stuff. Like it or not you are probably already eating near your type because of your food preferences. Eat the opposite to your preferences and I bet you wouldn't feel very well.
As I pointed out it's about metabolic rates: how you metabolize carbohydrates and if you don't believe in that then you don't believe there are such diseases as diabetes.
OTOH, eating a vegetarian diet by religious or philosophical principles and going against the body's actual needs can turn one into a real "space case". ;)
Not sure who the clown is that is bringing back these posts, but this is interesting. I am with Cap in that it seems there is clear evidence that low carb diets are good for at least a certain segment of the population. I hate to say it, but there seems to be a lot of low carb bashers who seem simply frustrated in trying to avoid the fact that other diets are healthier than there beloved sugar. I would think folks would by know realize that all the studies which implicated saturated fat as unhealthy were co-mingled with trans fat. Saturated fat is good for you period! There are plenty of very knowledgeable nutrirtional folks who recommend a 65 percent calorie diet from fat.
As to the question of genetic variance and blood typing. I am sure that whatever the famous book is that made the impact in this area years ago is full of untrue assumptions. It nontheless would seem obvious that different bodies will react differently to different diets. The example that people will respond differently to the same medication seems to make that point.
