Right Speech

Hello,

I would like to write about a topic which causes me great concern. It is getting to the point where I cannot allow myself to listen to radio or tv  for more than very short timespans. The level of discourse has sank so low that I am starting to realize its toxicity is way more damaging than any good it can do.

The Thom Hartmann show is by far the best thing on radio consistently and what I want to share is a concern not a criticism. I listen to Thom or sometimes MSNBC because I choose to. I do not wish to listen to ignorance and hatred dressed up as patriotism or what the majority of Americans want. So I will not listen to right wing radio or Fox TV.

So here is the problem, now whenever I tune in to Thom or MSNBC they are talking about what this awful person or that one said. It is amazing how the entire left has been duped into talking about what the right wants to talk about. The lack of awareness is staggering. And the damage being done by the lefts lack of integrity to speak the truth to power rather than be engaged in psycho babble with lunatics, is immeasurable.

I'm not saying that we can't point out the hypocrisy of the rights arguments and the downright wrongness of their ideas. But when this is all we do, react rather than act I feel the notion of progress becomes a farce.

I have much more to say but will leave it at that. Maybe some will say I should not listen if I don't like it. But I think you should know that there are real good people in this world who are forced to remove themselves from participating fully in society because the insanity is too high a price to pay.

I will finish on a positive note. That is something to grow on. I would like to suggest that all people who want the world to be a better, fairer and more just may be interested in considering the Buddhist concept of right speech. I hope the left is open minded to allowing a place for healthy dialogue. I'm afraid that many of us have unwittingly been led astray by the mean spirited right and need to return to the path.
