I'd argue that Eisenhower's advice to watch out for the rise of the military-industrial was a case of too little-too late..... or a closing the barn doors after the horses have escaped example.
as John Perkins has pointed out - the CIA ran WILD throughout the world - from Iran to Guatemala during the Eisenhower years. And we even have a term coined from these policies - BANANA REPUBLICS.
Eisenhower had ZERO problems with the Dulles Brothers running roughshod over democracies that threatened corporate profits for companies such as the United Fruit Company........ all in the name of fighting communism - even when it was completely erroneous.
For example - the guatemala government that was overthrown was based on the FDR New Deal policies.
AND that was enough to be overthrown by the coportist Dulles Brothers.
The motto was (and is)"gotta protect those corporate profits over all else" - unfortunately NOT MUCH HAS CHANGED.
The more people accept the lesser of 2 evils the more evil we will have forced on us.
Unfortunately Obama plays right into this - regardless of his motivations - of which Thom and I will argue all day about - I beleive Obama is doing exactly what he wants - the bare minimum to get re-elected and hold onto the base - and NO MORE!
Which is a disaster given the momentum the Left and progressives had after the election -
a baseball analogy - the batter hits the ball off the left field wall and then walks to 1st base. He would be critisized because he could of had a double or triple - but settled for a single. which is positive but not positive given what WAS POSSIBLE!
