He said " The KKK was formed by a Democrat; no Republican has ever been a member of the KKK. This is the heritage of the Democratic Party" I know the truth, but some facts help to shoot this down. thanks

that was back in the

that was back in the pre-Richard Nixon days when the Democratic Party was the conservative party in America. They even owned slaves.  After the Civil War which the northern Liberals won, the southern conservatives turned their backs on the Democratic Party and began voting republican.

You still see that today. Half the so-called Liberals on this message board are threatening to vote republican in the fall. They want to see the return of $4.00 per gallon gas.

Please do not use David Duke

Please do not use David Duke as a retort. You will look foolish and if the Conservative is even a part-time student of history, he will humiliate you and destroy you. David Duke is a Democrat. In 1989 during a special election he changed his party affiliation to Republican, Where he managed to squeak out a victory in a local election. Promptly thrown out 2 years later.

Of course your counterpart should already know this or at least find it pretty easy to find , He should also note, of course not that David Duke was running for the 1988 Democrat presidential nomination. Either way David Duke is still listed as a Democrat.

Then to really beat you down, He’ll bring up Democrat Robert Byrd. Ex-KKK, Famous filibuster of the Black civil rights and 3rd in line to the President of the United States.

Frankly it best to admit what he is saying is true, because it is true and move on from there. Try not to be disingenuous like some of the other slippery folks by playing the new republicans are the old democrat’s line. Makes you look desperate

As somebody who grew up in

As somebody who grew up in the South ... trust me ... if the old George Wallace or Lester Maddox were active today they would not be Ds or Rs they would be right of the Rs out in front of the Tea Party and playing for the KKK vote.

But listen to Byrd and even George Wallace, they repudiated the politics of race, fear and hate in no uncertain terms, Byrd did for decades. There are few Republicans in high office today who have separated themself clearly and consistently from the racist calumny over the Islamic community center and the ginned up controversies over the President's citizenship and religion.  (exception to prove rule: Bloomberg).  Any implication that Obama is a Muslim from the right is sooooo hypocritical after the Rev. Wright controversy.  A fine example is Boehner with "If he says he is a Christian well I guess ..." - No If about it really Mr. Speaker: at best low-brow snark at worst pretend capitulation that contains renewed race-baiting... jeez talk about slippery...

You could bring up the story of Magistrate Harry Truman single-handedly busting up a KKK rally by calling out his neighbors - shaming them out from under their hoods.  Or the later actions of long-time Republican Senators like Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms.  These two racists ended their careers as multi-term Republican Senators in the emergence of the 'red' South.

Sen. DeMint (R-NC) comes to mind: He said that the Republicans would use health care to break Obama, I heard that clip and the snap in his voice  - from the power elite of the Solid Republican South the implication was pretty clear.  DeMint scurried off to Honduras right after the coup there and spoke of the glorious military overthrow of the elected government.  Guess he was happy to be back in [control of?] the land of the terrorist Contras.

I hope I didn't get you in

I hope I didn't get you in trouble with that.  I figure Duke must have switched parties because he wasn't getting votes as a Dem.

Actual facts and history

Actual facts and history aside, who is he to say no Republican has ever been a mameber of the KKK? That would be like saying no Democrat has ever been; You don't know for SURE, people have a lot of differening opinions.

David Puke is a crybaby who doesn't have the brains to defeat a Liberal in a debate. He could never defeat me. And he is not a Democrat, by your own admission he is a republcan. He is one of the conservatives who switched parties, just like the Nixon Democrats of 1968. You contradicted yourself in your post. Are you a Liberal or a conservative, or don't you know?. All conservaties possess twisted logic.
