Thom,

I was shocked to hear you were having this loon on your show, but since you did, I would like to suggest that you have a responsiblity to talk this guy out of this action in the name of the innocent men, women and children who will die as a result of his actions.

He handed it to you when he said "it's their nature to be viloent". If that is so, then wouldnt you expect to get stung if you kick a bee hive? You can't stand back and take no responsbilty for other peoples responses when it's in their nature to respond in a predicatable way.

He also offered you that he was trying to ransom peoples lives for the community center in NY.

The entire overseas escapade  was interesting, but a distraction. How is someone supposed to respond to that anyway? We know he's a nutjob.

The question I wanted to hear was, "when tourists are beheaded and killed oversears, or military people killed in a terroist attack, innocenet people who have nothing to do with your book burning die - as a direct result of your actions - what you are going to say to the fatherless children, widows, and relatives of those who died?"

What about the beheadings that have gone down before this issue?  Who was held accountable.  Or were they performed in anticipation of this event?  I don't remember any Generals coming out stating that the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan could cause a backlash against Americans.

Honestly, this is just so amazing to me.  Bombing, droning and shooting innocent civilians in those two countries are a-okay, no problem, I guess.  But, oh my gosh, don't burn a book or they might not like us!

Without embracing the

Without embracing the military tactics that undermine any valid strategy in Afghanistan, I think it is nuts to ignore the symbolic importance of the deep insult and disrespect of the Koran burning.  It may be insult to injury, but that compounds the injury and is not balanced by them.  There are policy divisions between State and War about military effectiveness and what security requires.  Generals risk careers for speaking up about policy decisions when they are over-ruled.  There was substantial opposition to the war in Iraq, and serious criticism of how Afghanistan has been handled.  Obama inherited a mess that had festered past any possibility of real success.

What that appears to look like is not a strong national government, but regional autonomy and security.  No Karsai, and no Taliban either.  Meanwhile, the issue of the Pashtun and Pakistan competes with the Tribal Regions and Afghanistan and China, and with the old Pakistan/India conflict.  And where is Iran?  A school of mines for Afghanistan and local based development would be a great investment.  But it would require a post-imperial view of the world so the Afghans could own their own minerals.

9-08-2010 Der Spiegel link - Islamophobe Terry Jones:  Here is a direct link to the Der Spiegel link which Thom referred to on his show today, regarding the Terry Jones in Germany report (opens in new window):

Title of the article: Terry Jones Accused of 'Spiritual Abuse' at Cologne Church

I'll be spreading this information around everywhere I can, since I see no other reference on "main stream media" about this story.

Hi Thom!!!

I think I've got a way to stop this Florida Pastor creep from spreading his hatred any further.   Put a shout out to all your listeners in that region to show up and surround the pile of Korans and say NO!!!

If we can mobilize enough people we can stop this guy cold... even better though, would be to get soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines to show up in uniform to surround this pile of Korans and tell this guy NO!!!!  You will not cause one more death or one extra death due to your ignorance and intollerance!!!

If you and Randi, Big Eddy, Olbermann, Madow, Ratigan, Matthews and anyone with a real feel for democracy and common sense will put this word out to portect our troops who are in harms way, we can stop this NUT JOB right here, right now!!!!
