I only post when Thom is wrong, Haven't posted in over a year!

But he was wrong today to say that employers (corporations) pay one-half of the payroll tax. Stephen Moore tried to help him on this one - any tax that is directly related to employment is a cost of employment, and therefore paid by the employee. Therefore, the "employer's share" of the payroll tax is a hidden tax on employees. The means of hiding this tax is the official fiction that the employer pays it. In truth, the employer must set aside this money to hire the employee.

Here's some math for those so inclined: The true rate of tax is 15.3%/107.65*, or 14.2%,

If you are self-employed, you pay the self-employment tax, which is 92.35% x 15.3%, or ... 14.1%.

No coincidence.
