Thom, you should've upbraided your last caller today (Suzette)

I became angry and disgusted today when listening to your last caller (Suzette from Nevada) go on a xenophobic rant about "foreign people taking jobs away from Americans."  I bet she doesn't even know whether the non-English people she was referring to were foreign (the people she mimicked for the way they tried to be nice & tell her how to get to a coffee shop but couldn't speak enough English for her to understand).

I've got news for you, Suzette -- there are MILLIONS of AMERICANS who do not speak English.  They are just as 'American' as you, have just as much right to a job or land as you, and have just as much right to speak their language as you do.

They have as much entitlement as you regardless of what our government says, however the US does NOT have a federal language at the federal level.  It is only the official language at the state level in 28 states.  The US has 34 million speaking Spanish, 2.5 million Chinese, 2 million French, 1.4 million Tagalog, 1.2 million Vietnamese, 1.1 million German, 1.1 million Korean...

Where do so many white, English-only speaking people get off thinking that our land and society were made for them alone?  Wake up people!  Broaden your horizons, take a trip out of your narrow little world -- there are so many other kinds of Americans; they come in all kinds of colors, cultures, religions, and speak all kinds of languages.

Ok, now let's assume the people Suzette referred to were in fact foreign.  SO WHAT?  It still baffles me.  WHY do you have any more right to a good job than they do just because you happened to have citizenship?  I really don't get that line of thinking either.

People are people.  Drop your pernicious patriotism and let your mind evolve into a more compassionate, global mindset.  Let's fight for the right for EVERYONE to have a job that pays a living wage!
