Welcome to Protest of Silence for the liberal arts at BHSUCurrently the liberal arts are under attack at Black Hills State University. Recently our writer in residence position has been removed. Kent Meyers will no longer be the writer in residence at BHSU nor any other person. This position is a well known stable signifying the importance of the liberal arts and academics at any university. Following this development the university was issued a new structural outline placing the humanities under the business department. This not only deprives the liberal arts of funding, autonomy, and importance it silences those who use any form the of the arts to be heard. This new structure is just the beginning step of turning BHSU into into a tech school.

Our administration and President Schallenkamp have decided to take steps to degrade and oppress the liberal arts at OUR university. I am calling all of you to step forward and fight for our education and our voice. The removal of the liberal arts as the center piece of academics is not a way to save money but to take away our voice and future. Do not be pushed into silence by these oppressive measures.  You are the ones that make this university run, not administration and not someone who runs a bureaucracy by fear and code of secrecy and imposed silence. Join this group and if we get enough people I ask for a protest of silence to be announced at a latter time to demonstrate what this new structure and degradation of the liberal arts signifies. From the Facebook page Protest of Silence for the liberal arts at BHSU
