Unions Under Fire-ATTN: PATCO & Family Members

1 post / 0 new

I am the son of a fired PATCO air traffic controller. My father worked out of TRACON on Long Island.

Since the 1980's anti-union sentiment, and policy, has found a footing and an increasing number of advocates who have a large amount of influence. Recent activity to discredit, blame, and strip unions of their rights in almost every state of the union is proof of this.

To put a face and story behind those hurt by anti-union I am compiling a book about the affect that the firing of the PATCO controllers had on their families (controllers included). A perfect storm of anti-union activity has served as a wake-up call for me. Some more inflamitory episodes affect air traffic controlers, such as the December, 2010, armed escorting of Spanish (Spain) air traffic controllers back to work after control of air traffic was handed over to the military after a strike. The anti-union activity in Wisconsin, that citizens of that state fought to the end, was another example.

The recent events involving air traffic controllers asleep on the job gave media pause and blame was put on the controller, not on the broken and underfunded system. Where is the voice of the controller heard? Who tells their story? Why is it that media only recognize and points to a person when there is blame to assign?

My book will tell the story of the fired PATCO air traffic controller and the ramifications that single decision had on them and their families.

I am asking fired PATCO controllers and family to submit their stories, and allow me to interview them.

Proceeds from the book, save publication and writing costs, will go to PATCO families and union charities.

It’s Time for Bill O’Reilly to Get Real about White Privilege

It’s time for white America to get real about white privilege. Last night, Bill O’Reilly came from back vacation early to host a special edition of “The Factor”, one that he said would “tell the truth” about what’s going on in Ferguson, Missouri.
