One quibble with Rocky Anderson's appearance on "The Big Picture" this evening. He said that defense contractors are trying to keep "outmoded" (obsolete) weapons systems in production, apparently implying the F-22 fighter, since it is the only one where there has been a fight about stopping production.
The problem with the F-22 is not that it is obsolete; it is by far the best in the world. The problem is that there is no competition for it anywhere in the world today, hence no reason to build more than the current planned production (185, IIRC). There is no need to build any more.
A small quibble perhaps but the "waste" of building too many of an outstanding product is quite different from the "waste" of building something outdated.
