Earlier this week, Obama’s lawyer, Michael Jablonski, requested that Secretary of State Brian Kemp suspend the hearing, claiming it was not a legitimate issue and insisting he and his client would boycott the hearing. However, Kemp fired back, warning that the hearing was necessary under Georgia law and that Obama and Jablonski’s failure to participate would be “at your own peril.” Attendants packed the Georgia courtroom yesterday for the trial brought by residents who affirm that Obama was born in Kenya, making him ineligible to be US President. The ‘birther’ argument was addressed by the White House in an unprecedented acknowledgement of the controversy surrounding the issue last year when a document purporting to be Obama’s birth certificate was released to coincide with the publication of bestselling author Jerome Corsi’s book, Where’s the Birth Certificate? Corsi and other skeptics were unconvinced by the move however, claiming that the document is a forgery created using modern computer techniques and has numerous discrepancies with a genuine 1961 birth certificate created by a typewriter. Corsi has also presented evidence that the supposed social security number contained on the document was never issued to Obama and in fact belonged to an individual in Connecticut. One time Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump repeatedly raised questions surrounding Obama’s background during the spring of 2011 before going cold on the issue, a move Corsi claimed was an organized political stunt to neutralize the issue. The judge in Georgia is expected to make a final ruling on the case after February 5, by which time attorneys are required to file their briefs.

How crazy can it get?  I don't know if there is any limit to this stuff.  The head of the Georgia Democratic Party was on the tube last night, being calm and reasonable and assuring us that they were on the ball.  He was amazingly sane and calm considering the incredibly stupid crap this is.  It has already earned the birthers some serious court fines for wasting their time with crazy, trivial nonsense.  But, the South is the South, and Georgia has elected enough certifiable nuts to make this little drama have legs.  If they actually were to keep Obama off the Georgia ballot, but remember that Georgia is among the bad civil rights states where the feds still have some sway over their conduct on voter rights, but if they went ahead, I would hope the rest of the country would tell Georgia to go without our help and see how they like being on their own.

I think we should all have total contempt for this judge and this court.

If this post does not support my claim that the hallmark of the conservative mind is fear and not rationality, I don't know what does. Considering the fact that this president's predecessor DID run this country into the ground and this black guy has brought us back from that, should indicate how far removed from reality these people are. Maybe in addition to making candidates show their birth certificate, we should require an IQ test for voter registration.

I don't see where President Obama has engaged in any debate. 

This would all be over if he had produced a real Birth Certificate or just admit he is not an American citizen.  It is Obama that keeps this issue alive and no one else.

Maybe if you would read a history book as to why xenocracies are bad maybe you'd understand why the Obama Presidency is a Constitutional nightmare.

Well, gee. If Obama is not elligible than that means that John McCain should be president right now. Oh wait. He couldn't be. He wasn't born "within the borders of the United States". He was born in Panama. Not the first time that the Republicans ran a candidate who was inelligible. In 1964 they ran Barry Goldwater. Goldwater was born in Arizona.. the Arizona Territory to be exact. It was not yet a state at the time of his birth in 1909, and therefore not yet "within the boundaries of the United States".

Obama produced an Hawaiian birth certificate that's been certified by the Governor and Secretary of State of the State of Hawaii. Good enough for me.

I would have preferred Kucinich.  Nader is a great prophet but a lousy politician.  The only pissy Dems who feel that Obama has failed them miserably were not paying attention or invested more hope in the system than it deserved.  My heart wants a more radical assault on the powers that be than Obama, for sure, but my head reminds me that he is a reform emperor who was elected on a Purple Haze platform, not a Deep Blue Progressive.  (How we ever let the dogs steal our colors still puzzles me). 

Would Obama have fared better or gotten more done if he had taken on Wall St. directly?  I cannot say so.  He might have lost more gloriously, but between the Power of Money and the number of Americans still laboring under the illusions of America the Beautiful/Exceptional and electoral democracy, I think we may look back and see that he played a decent, if conservative, hand in his first term.  Would people have believed the GOPimps could be so bad, so intransigent and so rabid had he not pushed his bend over back/frontward higher ground bipartisanism? 

He is getting us out of the wars, and that is also something that I don't think he could have done abruptly.  If we could have elected a Kucinich, the politics would have been so different from what they are that it is a mute point.
