By: Robert Reich Jan. 26, 2012 - Republicans are worried sick about Newt Gingrich's ascendance, while Democrats are tickled pink.
Yet no responsible Democrat should be pleased at the prospect that Gingrich could get the GOP nomination. The future of America is too important to accept even a small risk of a Gingrich presidency.

Fly me to the moon, and let me dance among the stars, let me see what life is like on Jupiter and Mars.
I thought Rachel's space suit was very funny.
Newty's moon colony is nothing more than pandering to the Cape Canaveral folks who may feel slighted by what Obama did to NASA. No need to fret over Newt, because the GOP establishment is gonna make sure he don't get any further than he already has. I fail to see how any one of those clowns is a better choice than the others. They make Obama look better each day.
If you have to take the GOPimp field seriously, if there were really a chance that Americans could be insane enough to reject a decent human being whose only real fault is that he does not rip the cover off the masquerade and actually tries to make it work, you have to recognize that Gingrich is far more dangerous than Robot Ken Romney. Romney may be the High Priest of Mammon, a true believer in vulture capitalism and inherited wealth being able to play Mr. Financeer as if it were "work" creating value, but he has no imagination or sense of historical destiny to lead him to be more than a boring technocrat running a failed system. Not that it would be a bed of roses or anything short of disaster.
But Moonbeam Newt is a full fledged "man of destiny," a self-certain delusional who will act out in grandiose manner. The moon thing may have been a sop to NASA in Fla., but in the New Rome, Caesar Newt the Divine will seek to create his own monuments to ego with utter disregard to any other opinion or facts. As a fictional character, he is fascinating; but in real life it is so creepy that even Calista's helmet head is only background to his jowls.
