The nation’s oldest occupation suffered a blow this weekend as DC Park Police raided and evicted most of Occupy DC’s encampment in McPherson Square on Saturday. Just before dawn, dozens of officers in riot gear, on horseback, and in HAZMAT suits moved into the camp, then disassembled and trashed tents that they said were “not in compliance” with park rules. While the police claim that the weekend’s events were not an eviction, and did leave some tents behind, it’s clear that Occupy DC is now just a shell of the vibrant community it used to be.
During the weekend confrontation with police, more than a dozen occupiers were arrested with reports that one of them threw a brick at a police officer. Of course, if reports are true, violence has no place in this movement that has already accomplished so much around the world and should be challenged by the movement itself. In the same vein, violence also has no place in our police forces that are supposed to protect and serve, not silence and brutalize.

Thom, not only did someone "throw" a brick, a second later that brick smashed into a peace officers face!!
Anyone who has been to a Tea Party event knows that not so much as a gum wrapper gets left behind. In stark contrast, a hazmat team was required for a “nuisance abatement” cleanup at DC’s McPherson Square, which has been infested by Occupy Wall Street fleabaggers.

Pollster Doug Schoen (a Democrat!) discovered that a full 31% of Occupiers were willing to commit violence in pursuit of their agenda, whatever that is. As a response to this startling and frightening admission, the MSM either outright ignored or dismissed it. What you’ll see below proves that at least when it comes to their willingness to break the law, the Occupiers are keeping their word.

And as we have been discussiong on another thread, this Bill Moyer discussion with moral psychologist Jonathan Haidt points to some of the underlying moral-thus-cultural values in a large sector of the population that this sort of propaganda will appeal to.

I smell right wing propaganda with Calperson's claims. Trying to hold tea party gatherings as the moral superior is a history re-write; between the Hitler-esque and ubber-Africanized depictions of Obama, the hate and racism is a source of inspiration for many of these twisted Dittoheads. And there's no cleanup required after them because their numbers are so few, and nobody homeless would ever see a reason to join them.
I've been to the other Occupy DC event in Freedom Plaza, and Occupations here in Northern California. They are very fastidiously clean, and have committees to insure that.

This sounds like a cut-and-paste email from Karl Rove, and I bet it is.
So, Calperson, the 99% wants your life to be better. Do you want the same for them? Or is the hate too safisfying, short circuiting your ability to see Occupiers as humans trying to stand against the 1%, those who game the system through lobbyists representing corporations that pay zero US taxes, despite taking subsidies and defense contracts? You realize that you're a tool of these corporations, fighting with the lies they supply against your own best interests? Please tell me your reactions to that reality, Calperson. I want to see what shade of denial you'll use.
There were many pictures of trash left after Tea Party events. It just wasn't a media agenda to discredit them, and it is also true that they were financed unlike the OWS movement. Then there are the homeless, the rest of the neglected and abandoned and the provocateurs. And the media lies. And, the fools who buy into violence as radicalism.
If you ask people whether violence is ever justifiable, the answer will be yes for almost all. It can be self-defense. It can be the slave revolt. What do the starving peasants do to get the food out of the royal storehouses? If you are dealing with murderous thugs who see nonviolence as a target practice opportunity and if they are supported by the power elites and the media, who has caused the violence?
Whether it is good tactics is another matter. I oppose violence on strategic and tactical grounds as well as basic moral philosophy. But this requires a movement of solidarity to make the violence the issue that discredits and brings down the power elite. We cannot beat the police and military unless we subvert them and their warrant in legal authority. Then it goes back to the unions and the Pinkertons where the goons are in the employ of the bosses and everyone knows and understands this. Ridicule and non-violence are our most powerful tools.
OWS needs to create their own detectives to find out who these "anarchists" are an who is paying them. I bet very few of them are actually people who just want to cause trouble. Possibilities range from being police undercover to corporate hired thugs. Catch them and trace them back to the backers and expose them to the public.
