The National Rifle Association is meeting today in St. Louis for its annual conference

1 post / 0 new

This year’s gathering of gun supporters takes place amid national outrage over the Shoot First laws that have increased violence all across the nation – and given legal cover to people like George Zimmerman. The NRA – with the help of Wal Mart and the American Legislative Exchange Council – was instrumental in getting Shoot First laws passed in 25 states across American since 2005 – nearly tripling the rate of so-called “justifiable homicides” in the state of Florida.

But despite the backlash against the NRA – Mitt Romney will be on hand at this year’s conference to appeal to an important Republican constituency – gun owners. Expect a lot of lies about how President Obama is trying to take away everyone’s guns – despite the fact that guns right have expanded considerable under President Obama’s watch.

Should public radio program in the public interest?

NPR is supposed to be our national public radio, but they're barely covering climate issues that are in the public's interest.

Only one month ago, a national New York Times/CBS News poll found that half of all Americans think that global warming is already having a serious impact. Sixty percent of those surveyed even said that protecting our environment should be a priority “even at the risk of curbing economic growth.”
