Søren Kierkegaard’s ~“The Crowd is untruth”rkegaard said that without faith, our behavior only pulls us away from God into deeper alienation and despair. Sensing our own insecurity, we then try to do something. For example, we might try to find meaning in our lives by losing ourselves in a crowd, such as a church, political party, a club, or sports team. In a crowd we feel safe because we do not have to take individual responsibility for the outcome of an action. yet, losing ourselves in a crowd will not work, said Kierkegaard, because “ a crowd in it’s very concept is the untruth... it renders the individual completely impenitent and irresponsible.” For Kierkegaard, the real solution is to relate ourselves to God rather than to groups of people. Until we do this, our lives will be full of anxiety. Because the root of our anxieties is our alienation rom God, these anxieties create in us dynamic drive to find our essential self. w certainly being part of a church is not a bad thing. However we can’t measure our spiritual temperature by the church, for the church is made up of individual persons. So take individual responsibility for your life. Because at the end of the day you chose the life you wanted to live. Now some of us have been greater freedom then others, and ve certain circumstance thrown upon us, no doubt, but the fact still remains you determine your actions. Carpe Diem!
