Food Drive

Glenn Beck asked his online viewers last night to donate food to feed the homeless. In one hour enough food to feed over 500,000 meals was donated. I wonder what Thom's audience could do?

I'll bet Thom's audience already does that and much more. We have local food drives in our town just about once a month and we've never opted out. I don't think there's anyone in the country who would refuse to give something to a food drive whether they are Republican or Democrat or Independent.

Good for Glenn, I wish he would do that on every broadcast.

Enough for 500,000 meals?

Take out their modest commission of 10%.

Deflate by another modest 10% for each layer of NGO bureaucracies (10% x 8) in collection and distribution [they're all entitled to make a profit, right?].

Adjust for unrecorded dishonesty (8%).

Which leaves enough for 2000 meals which will be left sitting on docks to rot - acceptable "spillage" or donated from the unsellable e.coli supply.

Good work. So is anyone going to do anything about why this kind of assistance is needed in the first place?

Please know your facts, 100% going to help those in need. What "cut" gets taken when help flows through the government? Hundreds of millions are lost to fraud in food stamps. The point of the food drive is to prove that the American people will help each other and do not need the government to do it.

Every day, children in every county in the United States wake up hungry. They go to school hungry. They turn out the lights at night hungry.

That is one of the stunning key findings of a new study to be released Thursday by Feeding America, a network of 200 food banks and the largest hunger charity in the country.

As many as 17 million children nationwide are struggling with what is known as food insecurity. To put it another way, one in four children in the country is living without consistent access to enough nutritious food to live a healthy life, according to the study, "Map the Meal Child Food Insecurity 2011."

Those hungry children are everywhere, and with the uncertain economy, the numbers are only growing, experts say.

The consequences of malnutrition can be severe. Several studies have shown that food insecurity affects cognitive development among young children. And for older children, students like Foronda, school performance is affected. Additional research shows that with hunger comes more frequent sickness and higher healthcare costs.

With the help of government AND nationwide charities there are still millions of hungry children in the United States. How can charity alone handle the problem? Please know your facts.

Only a liberal can look at an effort to feed people and find evil. Amazing, simply amazing. This is why the American conservative is the most caring, generous, charitable, and giving person on earth.
