Railroads, WHY NOT !!!

Watching your show today Thom, when a nice lady called from, well, I dunno, but she called with a wonderfull suggestion of transportation.

Instead of the Canada XL Pipeline,  put the money towards mass transit.  It's time "we" had a magnetic bullet train.  Let's get the people to the jobs!

Yup -- terrific call! Thom

Yup -- terrific call! Thom suggested "moving people -- not oil" and I thought that was great!

Also, Bill Clinton, Sharpton and others have talked about the payoff for the US if we make buildings energy efficient and give tax breaks for doing so.

I sure agree with the railroad construction. For some reason a lot of Republican Governors (e.g., Scott, Walker, Christy) want nothing at all to do with mass transit. I'd imagine that they don't want reductions in gasoline use, they don't want employment through doing necessary work on our infrastructure, etc.

But Thom was right -- China has constructed numerous railways by focusing on their infrastructure -- and by spending their own stimulus money in-country -- and by not having people stand in the way of progress -- namely, the Republicans with their record number of filibusters and their number one goal (as Mictch McConnell stated) of "making sure President Obama is a one-term President!" If this is their major intent, then dragging the country off the cliff to accomplish this goal may be quite okay with them! if not for other Americans.

Yours,

Caleb

Trains, home based solar

Trains, home based solar energy, and weatherization are all designed to empower people, democracize energy use. The rightwing oligarchs that fund the TeaBaggers oppose these things. Ergo, they will never happen here.

Yeah, I wouldn't agree with that at all. There is nothing Big Brother would love more than to force everybody onto trains. The State gets to dictate when the prole gets to travel down to the minute, where the prole gets to travel to, and where the prole gets to travel from. In the advent of some "Homeland Emergency" Big Brother gets to shut down the entire train system and freeze all proles into their current place.

No my friend, it is the car that grants the citizen true freedom, true empowerment, and true movement. The ability to go anywhere, door to door, at any time of day is what drives the power hungry Left truly crazy.

It costs me $3.00 to take

It costs me $3.00 to take mass transit all day in Phoenix, less if I get a monthly pass. I put $45 a week in my gas tank, plus paying for the car, plus repairs and insurance. For the poorest 40%, that adds up.
Cars mean freedom for those who can afford it.
