Iraq War and Unintended Consequences

On Wednesday's show Carl mentioned the "unintended consequences" of the Iraq war, namely the consequent empowerment of Iran.  Carl just mentioned this in passing with out expounding fully but I feel the need to vent.  The empowerment of Iran was clearly a predictable consequence of invading Iraq.  It was very simple actually.

Iraq is a muslim country - 60-65% Shia and 32-37% Sunni and although the Sunni were in the minority they controlled the country.  Iran is 89% Shia.  If Iraq were democratic, as the war was supposedly meant to achieve, the Shia would clearly achieve greater representation which would likely result in a stronger relationship between the two neighboring Shia Muslim nations.  That math is not hard. Perhaps Iran has been empowered for other reasons as well but these simple facts alone should have been enough to predict this fate.

If anyone involved in planning this war claims otherwise they are either very stupid or dishonest.  Take your pick guys...do you want to be stupid or a just a liar?  Lucky for you there will be no consequences for you either way besides your blood stained hands.
