"Renaissance Thinking About the Issues of Our Day"
Hi,
A friend told me that today, April 30, 2010, there was information discussed about being on Social Security Disability. It was included on the "Hour 1: Brunch with Bernie" Show. Specifically, he talked about people who are on Social Security Disability and work at the same time. Social Security Disability allows recipients to work a limited number of hours. There is a maximum amount of money one can make every month. If a recipient goes even one penny over the amount (for reasons beyond the recipient's control, such as because the boss required paid training), there are consequences. This is especially difficult for single people who are self-supporting but have serious medical problems that prevent them from working full-time. They may be required to pay back money Social Security sent them if SS doesn't have a record that they reported the overwork. SS is quite busy and this can lead to mistakes that fall thru the cracks.
I have been unable to access the free community streaming audio of this show and am anxious to learn more about this topic. My friend said that Bernie is introducing legislation in Congress regarding it.
Can someone who heard the show tell me what was said? My PC isn't the best and wouldn't send an e-mail to The Thom Hartmann Show asking for directions for how to access the free archives, so I could listen, myself.
Thanks for any information.
