"Renaissance Thinking About the Issues of Our Day"
Liberty Bell Quote
And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubilee unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family.
– Leviticus 25:10
Last week one of Thom's guests claimed that the proof that the Founding Fathers were Christian included a fact that their is a Bible passage from Leviticus inscribed on the Liberty Bell. This inscription is only the first part of the full verse; And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof:" I find it ironic that this conservative idealogue would cite the verse, that when read in full, that is the basis for the concept of the "jubilee" when all debts are forgiven.

I think this had to do with real estate and inheritance laws from long ago. In the present day, title to real estate can be clouded for up to 50 years before it is clean. That is, unless the real estate undergoes a foreclosure or tax sale.
As 50 years is the break between two generations, in the handing down of lands, heirs have 50 years to reclaim land held by adverse possession, such as by banks or trustees, if they can afford the legal fees.
That's the Crack in the Liberty Bell.
