What more can be said about Terry Jones (no not the Monty Python one), pastor of Dove World Outreach Church in Gainesville, Florida except trim your mustachio. Christianity is a religion of attraction not promotion and Jones' attraction is a side show and an embarrassment. Burning the Koran on Saturday to commemorate the 9/11 attacks is as silly as burning the flag. Both things go up in flames, but Islam and this country continues. Ignorance is rampant in this country. What passes for truth in some circles are half-truths and outright lies. Sometimes I cannot believe that seemingly smart people fearing that they will miss the bandwagon to stupidity jump on board with all four feet. Context is everything but means nothing to some of these folks. We get pushed out of shape when someone disagrees with us (like France before the Iraq invasion). Our knee jerks whenever we see something we don't understand or is odd or is critical of the USA. And the response is just as jerky. Does anyone think for themselves anymore?
Over the years 9/11 has become a side show for hate and fear in this country. I'm not sure how we should handle this, but burning copies of the Koran making some feel good in the short run really accomplishes nothing in the long run. It is akin to shaking one's fist at the sky for the destruction of a tornado only in this case the impotent burning of the Islamic scriptures may actually harm our troops. These are the troops who, for all intents and purposes, guard our freedoms to be ignorant so that we can burn Korans, watch Fox News and create "Freedom Fries." To "Pastor" Jones from which scriptures are you reading?
and so it goes...

Please don't intermingle dumb things with positive positions.
The proper protocol for disposing of a standard (flag) which is damaged beyond repair is to burn it. This protocol is older than anyone living and resides with such other symbolic procedures as not posting (flying) one in the dark, not posting one that is damaged/frayed - and not using them as decoration (one to an area, except in memorials on special occasions).
But that's not what I wanted to add to you otherwise good thoughts.
I'm wondering if these are the same religious texts that we've been including in the Humanitarian Aid packages delivered by Coalition Forces to the destitute in Afghanistan these past eight-plus years?
And I thought we all agreed that when mass-murderers turn themselves in so they can be famous - we wouldn't reward their heinous acts by giving them disproportionate media attention - because we don't want to encourage/reward it.
