Reminder about Disingenuous Statements

People that have no shame will say anything because we keep letting them get away with it.  Too many to repeat, but when I find someone who doesn't believe someone could have said such a thing (and not have been ridiculed, impeached, etc.) - I take it to mean I need to put a reminder out.

Who remembers the "surge" in Iraq?

Jan 2007, Bush announces he wants to "surge" an additional 21,500 U.S. combat troops into Iraq (turns out it's an American Enterpirse Institue idea - but that's a different post).  It will actually bring our total to 151,500 (less than the "non-surge" level that were there for the Iraq elections a year before - but that's another post).

Feb 2007, Blair announces that Britain will be reducing their troops in Iraq by 1600 (of their 7100) right away and another 500 by summer's end.

When asked about to comment on the UK reducing their forces, Cheney says:  it's "an affirmation that there are parts of Iraq where things are going pretty well."
