Big Picture Fact Of the Day...

Why Are We Handing the Internet to Greedy Corporations?

Julio Rivera, Reactionary Times/Newsmax/Right Wing News/Politichicks & Travis Korson, Madison Strategies. Just as the FCC's plan to gut net neutrality opens up for public comment - Comcast has begun taking legal action against open internet activists. Why do we want to hand the internet over to awful, litigious companies like Comcast? Why do we want to give them the same power over the internet that the Chinese government has?

Greg Palast On Gerrymandering & Voting Rights

Greg Palast, The Best Democracy Money Can Buy. Democrat Jon Ossoff is up big with a little less than a month before the sixth district of Georgia's runoff congressional election. So why is one of America's leading investigative journalists warning that the election will be stolen? Also - In a 5 to 3 ruling earlier this week - the Supreme Court struck down not one - but two North Carolina congressional districts. In a decision that brought together right-winger Clarence Thomas and his four liberals colleauges - the court found that the two districts were racially gerrymandered and thus unconstitutional. Progressives are obviously thrilled with this decision - but according to my next guest we should all hold off on the celebrating until the bigger battle for voting rights is won.

How Republicans Will Get Rich Throwing Millions of Americans off Healthcare

Thom Hartmann talks with Greg Palast about the recent move by the Supreme Court that declared certain congressional districts in North Carolina unconstitutional and unfair to voters. Then a Big Picture Rumble with Julio Rivera and Travis Korson about the swindle from the GOP called “Trumpcare”, the war on drugs in America that targets minorities, and Comcast threatening legal action against net neutrality defenders.

Dr. Richard Wolff - The Problem with “Reactionary Keynesianism"

Economist Dr. Richard Wolff, Capitalism's Crisis Deepens Essays on the Global Economic Meltdown/Democracy At Work. Earlier today - the White House officially sent its 2018 budget plan to Congress. It has a patriotic-sounding name - but the so-called "New Foundation for American Greatness" is really just an all-out assault on poor and working Americans. If the President gets his way - billions will be cut from vital programs - including Medicaid - which candidate Trump promised never to cut. "Cruel" doesn't even begin to describe this budget plan.

The GOP “Kill the Poor" Budget Plan

Sam Sacks, The District Sentinel News Co-op & Horace Cooper, National Center for Public Policy Research. Even as it is slashes away at Medicaid, food stamps and healthcare for children, The Trump budget plan calls for a $52 billion increase in defense spending and a $1.6 billion allocation for his completely unnecessary border wall.

Are We Watching the End Of the Trump Presidency?

Chuck Rocha, Solidarity Strategies & Bryan Pruitt, RedState. Big breaking news today on the various investigations by the Justice Department, and presumably the FBI, of the Trump campaign and now the Trump administration itself. The Washington Post is reporting that the feds now have a "person of interest" in their crosshairs who is a "senior White House Advisor." Only two people, Steve Miller and Jared Kushner, have that title, and both are on Air Force One with Trump right now on their way to Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, Rod Rosenstein, the number two guy in the Justice Department and the one who, because Jeff Sessions lied under oath to congress about his contacts with Russian officials, is in charge of the investigation, is reported by McClatchy to have said that the investigation has both moved into a criminal phase, and that they're looking at charges of obstruction of justice - a coverup - within the Trump camp. On top of this, the New York Times is reporting that Trump himself bragged to the Russian foreign minister and the Russian ambassador that he "relieved pressure" on himself by firing James Comey, who he described to the two senior diplomats as a "nut job." Are we watching the beginning of the end of the Trump presidency?
