November 2010

Enjoy them while you can. By Jim Ryerson jim@cubaconnections.org

There was a nice piece in the New York Times about the visit of the American Ballet Theater to Havana. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/08/arts/dance/08abt.html?ref=arts It was the first time the company had been there since 1960, when the U.S. Embargo against Cuba went into effect. The piece talks about expanding cultural ties between our countries. Good luck with that.

taxes for the rich

Maybe the the higher taxes are opposed because they might generate enough income for the government to provide services to its citizens. How can government be drowned in a bathtub if it is viable and providing for the commons?

Passionate Progressive

Listen to Thom every day. MSNBC freak after 3 pm PDT/PST. Live in Portland, Oregon, where Thom used to live. Sorry to have lost him, but glad the nation has him in DC where the action is! 2012 is coming...progressives don your battle armour.

Clearing the Mid-term Desk...

One of the things that has changed a bit regarding this mid-term election reminds me of the presidential primary process that I witnessed over about 30 years while living in NH. Many think that the start-up of the next presidential primary campaigns occurring only one week after the just concluded primary election was a bad thing...I think that it was GREAT!

Third party good for USA ???

For a long time I have believed that the country would be much better off if we had a third political party. Not one of those that runs a Presidential candidate and them immediately disappears Any party that swings too far in any direction would fear that it might become a small minority party. Let’s give our Congressman another choice. Not just be with their party or against the other party. PS: There are NO stations in Texas that carry your program. A very sad state of affairs. The public hear

INSIDE JOB.. A must see movie

Inside Job. Documentary by Charles Ferguson. We saw it. I so want the word to get out on this movie. Ferguson lifts the rock up from Wall Street, and the seething corruption, political,financial, academic, lobbying, self-aggrandizement of the fiscal collapse brilliantly laid out and explained. Greed for its own sake, rewarded.

AULde Langley Sign

Therefore to be judged is Dr.Lawhon's Baker University John Wesley Daniel Loaf vs their Genetically Cracked Wheat, Walker and Baker and Daniels and Shoaff, in the sweet Bayh and Bayh of course. So keep reading that Bible, W, because W stands for Word. And here come's something you may not have heard:

Folks: Lets keep a copy in our pockets for quick reference when speaking with our ... 'friends' on the other side.

After The 8 Years Of The Bush/Cheney Disaster, Now You Get Mad?

You didn't get mad when the Supreme Court stopped a legal recount and appointed a President.

Quote From 6th Century China

A quote from T'ien-t'ai (538-597 C.E., China)

"Because anger increases in intensity, armed strife occurs;
Because greed increases in intensity, famine occurs;
Because foolishness increases in intensity, pestilence occurs.
And because the three calamities [of armed strife, famine and pestilence] occur, earthly desires grow more powerful than ever, and false views increasingly flourish."

This is even more true today than it was way back then.

Here's what the feud and reconciliation between John Adams and Thomas Jefferson can teach us about civility

Thom plus logo Donald Trump did not invent the art of the political insult but he's inflamed the level of vitriolic public discourse and incivility to a new low unmatched by other presidents. In a tainted tradition that has permeated our history, other presidents have not been immune to dishing out acerbic insults against one another.
