1. When your opponents try to imply that the 16 trillion debt belongs to President Obama, they need to be corrected and informed as to what actual proportion belongs to Obama, mentioning the 2 trillion dollar Bush Wars off budget. Also, that Reagan's 3 trillion deficit in todays money would equal 12 trillion and was done at 3 times the average interest rate of today.
Last week, a 22-year-old gumnman entered a supermarket in Elkhart, Indiana and fatally shot two women, one an employee, the other a customer. He was threatening a third person when the police arrived and shot him dead. The police did not have any motive for the shooting. It was reported that the man had a social media or Web site where he talked about killing people in general, and that he had had some previous encounters with the police. Sheridan Baker, in his book The Practical Stylist (6th edition) has an outstanding section on straight and crooked thinking. In order to elevate America's ability to challenge those who want to manipulate others, it's past time for all of us to understand these ideas. In particular, I think there are two concepts--preferences and persistences--that Republicans use to manipulate uneducated people here in the South.

The point of no return is that point at which it is no longer possible for people in general to pursue their interests in society by engaging in rational discourse and civil social intercourse. The basic concept of a functional democratic society envisioned by Enlightenment era thinkers is fairly simple. A free press reports the facts. People use this information to debate freely and participate in a democratic system of government by rationally analyzing the facts according to philosophical principles.
