Bernie Sanders To Seek Democratic Nomination For President

Vermont Public Radio, News, April 28, 2015

VPR News has learned from several sources that Independent U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders will announce his candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination on Thursday.

Sanders will release a short statement on that day and then hold a major campaign kick-off in Vermont in several weeks.

Sanders' entry into the Democratic race ensures that Hillary Clinton will face a challenge to win the support of the liberal wing of the party.

The White House Fires Back at George W. Bush

Reuters, April 29, 2015

President Barack Obama's chief spokesman brushed off former President George W. Bush's recent criticisms of the current administration during his press briefing on Monday.

"I don't think it's a surprise to anyone in this room that President Bush might have some differences with President Obama when it comes to foreign policy," White House press secretary Josh Earnest said.

Earnest was responding to reports over the weekend on Bush's remarks to a closed-door gathering of Jewish donors.

The Lessons of Viet Nam

For anyone who wants to get a primer on the lessons of Viet Nam, I highly recommend a book by Jerry Lembcke called The Spitting Image: Myth, Memory and the Legacy of Viet Nam.

I was a protester in my small town and I remember soldiers coming home one at a time and being dumped back into civilian life with no support and no assistance. My neighbors were expected to walk straight back from jungle combat and into our version of civilization.

A Vietnam war veteran's recollections

I was stationed near San Francisco from early '67 to the spring of '69 when I was sent over to be part of Nixon's secret war.

I went through the San Francisco Airport many times, and always in uniform (required to get military discount) and I was never treated poorly. I was always treated just like anyone else, I assumed. My last trip through that airport in uniform was in late April of 1970 and I had the same experience. No problems at all. I don't even remember getting any dirty looks.

How long would this last ?

I know millions of Muslim would like this phrase (photo) on currency, but really, would this ever happen.

Silent Protest of Religion on Currency

Our government and its currency should be religiously neutral - secular. I am encouraging the marking out of In God We Trust on paper currency.
