February 5, 2015 - Yikes! I knew that I was overdue for a complete physical - it had been a few years since I had one - so I decided to schedule one for after my 56th birthday. I just got the results from all of the blood work, and it is bad news across the board. My blood sugar level is elevated, putting me squarely into the pre-diabetic range and my cholesterol levels are high, putting me at a greater risk of heart disease (9% risk of a heart attack over 10 years). This is a real surprise to me, in light of the fact that I have been a

"Not long after Al Sharpton’s daughter filed suit against New York City for “permanent damage” to her foot from an “uneven” street in Soho, she began posting photos on Instagram showing that she hiked mountains on vacation. Now, the city wants those photos preserved."
I routinely share memes posted by Bernie Sanders' Senate Facebook page without incident. Today I shared a (*sponsored*, as in his campaign paid to promote it so it was MORE likely to be seen) link to join Bernie's campaign(different account than his Senate page) and was presented with a selection of about 10 pictures and asked to select which ones were tigers... O.o I've known people who were presented with capchas for posting too many things in one day, but I really don't post that much, Bernie only puts out 3-4 memes a day. When I try to share a lin

SMEDLEY BUTLER ON INTERVENTIONISM
(Excerpt from a speech delivered in 1933 by Major General Smedley Butler USMC)

It was President Ronald Reagan who made this possible when he signed into law the change in how assets are determined in bankruptcy cases. Prior to the signing of this law, pensions were calculated as company liability. After the signing, pensions became an asset thereby pumping up a company's worth. This one law gave rise to corporate raiders who plundered companies for their pension plans.
lately on youtube i've been attacking noam chomsky for his simplstic, reductionist, biased view of cause and effect; what good is being a genius if one's thoughts are addled by prejudice? while criticizing our govt is part of the democratic process and a free society (right wing claims we're NOT free are nonsense. borrowing an old rightist trope, i say go back where you came from, gripers).
main point is: ideology is absolute, whiel reality is always relative. therefore, no idelog can out-argue a relativist except in the minds of the brainwashed.
with many catholics opposing church positions on sexual/lifestyle/family issues, and red state kids not buying their parents' environmental denialism, religion may be nearing the point where it can be disregarded as a political consideration.
