What is the Scientist's March on Washington?

Welcome!..We want to thank you all for your incredible outpouring of support for this march...We are working to schedule a March for Science on D.C. and across the United States...We have not settled on a date yet, but will do so as quickly as possible and announce it here.

Although this will sart with a march, we hope to use this as a starting point to take a stand for science in politics....Slashing funding and restricting scientists from communicating their findings (from tax-funded research) with the public is absurd and cannot be allowed to stand as policy...This is a non-partisan issue that reaches far beyond people in the STEM fields and should concern anyone who believes in empirical research and science.

There are certain things that we accept as facts with no alternatives....The Earth is becoming warmer due to human action...The diversity of life arose by evolution...Politicians who devalue expertise risk making decisions that do not reflect reality and must be held accountable....An American government that ignores science to pursue ideological agendas endangers the world.

Please bear with us as we pull together our mission statement and further details.

Many more updates to come

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

ANYONE WHO BELIEVES IN EMPIRICAL SCIENCE...THAT'S IT...THAT'S THE ONLY REQUIREMENT.

Thank you for sharing this. I'll be there for that march for sure.

It is shocking the Trump has taken steps to silence science in 4 days. Freezing all EPA grants for at least 60 days (the EPA doesn't employ all the scientists. They review proposals and issue grants to science institutes, univerisites, etc to go out and collect and analyze the data).

Then a gag order for the NIH (no drug trial info allowed to be shared?), Dept of Interior (No info from public parks?), USDA (No agriculture studies?), and more?

What's next? NOAA can't publish weather studies? NASA can't share space and Earth science findings?

Freezing hiring and the threat that the GOP congress can call out career civil servants by name and with a quick vote change their salary to $1/yr. If you speak up are you cut off?

This is even more scary than I had feared.

Hi Blue,

Recall that there were three "Scopes" trials, the last during the Ray-gun administration, if I recall correctly.

Still, to be fair to all religions, I think that High School students should be taught the virtues of virgin sacrifice.

And college students should learn that Christianity was so successful because of its outstanding business plan, that by the middle of the second century the Church was the richest entity in the empire.

What Do Democrats Really Want?

Thom plus logo Thomas Friedman, the confused billionaire, told us decades ago that "free trade" is what made the Lexus a successful product when, in fact, it was decades of Japanese government subsidies and explicit tariffs that did so.
