Be not afraid! It's a hoot!!! Look at www.bridgesforkitz.com to see the basic equipment to be over bridges!
I stood on the 28th avenue bridge over Westbound I-84 bridge in Portland, Oregon, today (Sunday 10-31 afternoon, from 1 to 3 pm) waving a Kitzhaber sign and waving a plastic hand and had a great time! People honked and waved and some – not many made rude gestures. People walking by praised me and several patted me on the back!
It really seems to me that John Stewart and Colbert had it right – that fear gets in the way of communication, and simply telling people – that we may have differences but we’re not scary – is a good and productive thing!
For those making rude gestures – what is their reasoning? I would not do that against Republicans, but I guess they hate more than we do, and that motivates them and closes their ears to logic. Also seemed to me that many of them drove expensive cars, and certainly many of them are low information voters.
Anyway, I want to say that standing on bridges with signs, and waving a big welcoming hand and looking people in the eye – that’s a terrific thing to do! Show them you’re not the devil, support those who think you are ineffectual, speak truth to power! With a good bridge and a message to send, you can reach many thousands of cars in several hours!
Tomorrow I am going to be on the SW Elligsen Road Bridge between 6 and 8 am (11-1) just south of Portland, facing drivers that are coming north. On Friday I faced the other way in rush hours, from 4:15 to 6:15 pm. One more chance to reach the people, and I will be on the 28th avenue bridge early Tuesday am as well, for the cars coming from the East.
Really, a lot of fun and a way to encourage people and tell them we are not the enemy – “We care about PEOPLE – what do the Republicans care about?”
