I registered to vote as a Democrat in New York back in Febrary. I received my registration card shortly thereafter and it had a voting date in September which I thought was strange. A couple of weeks later I got a date correction card saying my voting date was September 13th
I called the Board of Elections today and the lady that I was transferred to said that New York law says that they are only required to inform new registrants of state election dates and not federal elections. She said that this was leftover from the days when all the primaries, state and federal were on the same day.
This rep I talked to at the New York City BOE (her name is Georgia) told me that they are reviewing the law and there is a meeting tomorrow about it. She could not give me a definite answer whether or not they would be informing new registrants of the federal primary on April 19th.
