To be a Republican today, one must be rich, cruel, or incredibly politically ignorant, and they’re not mutually exclusive! For a working person to vote republican is tantamount to taking his hammer and hitting himself in the head. President Truman said: “The Republican Party, as I said a while ago, favors the privileged few and not the common everyday man.”

Although i agree overall, there are many areas in which the Democrats are almost as bad as the Republicans when it comes to workers' rights. The Democrats have not passed laws on the state level, when they might have had an opportunity to do so, that would have prevented employers from firing people for irrelevant reasons, for drinking alchol (and responsibly) on one's own time outside of work, for writing a personal letter to a relative which included criticisms of the person's boss, for writing fiction with some adult scenes or themes, for having a John Kerry for President bumper sticker on the back of an employee's car, or for declining to make a financial contribution to the Republican Party, just because the boss required that a subordinate do so. These are all examples given by a lawyer specializing in employment and labor law as to why actual employees were fired. The Democrats are much mor fair and concerned with average and struggling people than are Republicans, but Democrats could have done more to try and improve housing assistance, mental health care, and the affordabililty of health care for all citizens. More than one doctor I have spoken with have agreed that the amount of money charged by hospitals for even relatively brief outpatient tests and surgeries is a ripoff. Such legislation as NAFTA, limiting financial assistance to mothers who might not be able to find adequate employment, blue collar and even some white collar men who were laid off from their jobs for no fault of their own and then unable to find a new job, given the large number of unemployed people looking for work, have been supported or signed into law by Democrats, even though these hurt workers and poor people. The lack of security for many disabled people is another concern not adequately addressed in the past by Democrats.

The Democrats are also being bought off. Along with all the judges as far as the eye can see.

Only 14 democratic senators voted against Omnibus. Most of the rest had received funding from the banks in question. The revolving door is growing so large you can ride a Hummer through it pulling a 60 foot yacht and a trailer with 200 congressmen waving their hands with hundreds of hundred dollar bills. And smiling. And the American people will of course think it is a parade.

If the American people do not wake up soon I fear for the worst.
