The remark wasn't funny. I agree with Tom Hartmann that it is a cultural issue. A Caucasian policeman attempting to inject levity into the situation is someone that is insensitive given today's environment of police shootings of Blacks proprotionately and per capita.

The officer has been suspended. He needs to be retrained before "hitting" the streets again. He probably needs to patrol with a senior Black officer that can provide him some insight into what the Black community experiences everyday in the Atlanta area besides the training.

I occassionally watched CSPN during the recent healthcare action in the senate. Points of interest:

1. I watched that long afternoon/evening where democrats gave talks opposing the 'healthcare' abomination proposed by republicans but found no reports of this effort on the news of the major networks even here in Oregon where both our senators spoke out forcefully in opposition.

2. I watched a news opportunity given by democrats with messages opposing this legislation; when asked for questions there were none and again the incident was not reported.

This at least partly explains why people are frustrated with the apparent lack of response by the democrats to what is going on in Washington; they are responding...the news is just not getting out.

How can we get our fair, impartial and real news back? Walter Kronkite where are you?

I think a reference to a news report would help. Here's the URL for one of them. Some of the comments to this news report highlight just how racist some - many? - uSans are:

Louise, there is "real" news and it's much easier to find now than during the Walter Kronkite era when we simply had access to what limited sources gave us. Now it's a question of intelligent searching and choosing. I'll suggest one:

This blog was about racism, not about health care. Here's a Nation article on that subject:

Paul Ryan’s Pronouncements Are Not Enough; Congress Must Censure Trump and Confront White Supremacy

It’s time for real action, like removing Confederate statues and firing Stephen Miller.

Trump Is Using Racist White People To Make The Rich Richer

There is this whole mythology that Donald Trump came to power because 53% of white women voted for him, because 66% of white working men who didn't have a college degree voted for him.

That may be, but those are not his constituents. Those are his suckers. Those are his rubes.
