I remember when I said that single payer health coverage would not work in VT. I was derided and impugned, on another liberal website, for not knowing a thing about how single payer was the answer to our healthcare situation. I can now proudly say I have been vindicated.

Part of the problem is trying to run a single-payer system within a larger for-profit industry. A single-payer system is meant to PROVIDE HEALTH CARE, not make profits. These 2 goals can not exist together and despite VT's initial failure, these systems do work. I live in Canada now where the budget deficits in the medical system do have some effect on care, but almost never with the patient's knowing it. The hit is felt by physicians and administrators, patient's still get nearly free (in BC we pay $139/month for a family of 3) care from some of the best physicians in the world. Come around US so I can eventually come back home, I miss baseball.

Are you in denial Alice? Would you trust a more left leaning source? How about your colleagues over at the DKos?

How do you like your crow, Alice?

My my Kilo, aren’t we smug today. You seem pleased as punch with the for-profit death panels that continue to thrive under “Obummercare”. Our Canadian friend (post #2) has explained the problem quite well. Probably too complex for Kilo to grasp.

Kilo, you are an idiot. Your juvenile taunts, in this context, reveal a lot about the shallow little prick who wrote them. How do I like my “crow”? What do you think this is, some fucking football game? “Denial” of WHAT exactly? The sanctity of the profit motive? Is that what gives you a hard-on? I’ve got better fish to fry than engage in an ongoing verbal fox-trot with white trash like you. - AIW

This is no simple disagreement. This is gloating and baiting on Kilo's part, which prompted that kind of response. And given the context (health care, life-versus-profit), it was offensive.

And some may find this response more offensive than the OP.

My God lady. The OP just pointed out Vermont came to their senses.

Oh stuff it, Dex. You conservatives are always pooh-poohing solutions, while offering no alternative solutions. Buzz off.

Oh... second thought, I'll buzz off. The podium's all yours!

A for-profit health insurance company in my state, several years ago, suddently closed down and permanently went out-of-business, leaving members in the lurch with unpaid medical bills that were supposed to be covered in accordance with the insurance policies. So under this same logic, or should I say illogic, if one private health insurer goes under, all health insurance companies will eventually go out-of-business. If Vermont proves that that single-payer is no good, then this health insurance company that closed down must prove that all health insurance companies are no good. The company even had set up local offices around the state, whose department of insurance obviously did not monitor what was going on financially with this company. (I think San Francisco may have developed a health insurance program for city residents, but I don't know anything about it.)

Impeachment: The Difference Between Nixon & Trump

Thom plus logo There is a very simple reason why some Republicans participated in the impeachment proceedings against Richard Nixon, but none have so far broken ranks against Trump. That reason is the US Supreme Court.
