While I wasn't born yesterday; I have just discovered Thom's books, blogs and shows.
I am very surprised too see the way Thom seems so chipper reporting the dark news of our out of control government and economy. It is great to stay informed; but the size of this problem is mega-huge and has so many people cooperating with it. I am glad Thom is so excited to keep us up to date on the real news that affects us all; but it does scare me.
I was born in a very patriotic liberal environment and learned about politics at a young age. Then I watched over the years as crucial factors have gone to hell in a hand basket. (i.e. education, the economy, the environment, international relations and military actions.)
I don't know what to do about it. So I go to work, pay my taxes, vote and raise my kids. I also have volunteered in the community. But I feel frustrated that the problems are snowballing out of control.
The thing that irks me the most is the absence of accountability; the root word of civilization is civil and we have civil rights and responsibilities every citizen of the United States of America is a Civil Servant. As in not only do we have Rights as a Citizen; but that as a Citizen of a Great Country like ours we have Duties. No wonder we are working with a non-working model; no one is responsible anymore but everyone wants rights given to them. We all got our selves into this; whether through direct involvement or passive acceptance. It is time for we the people to roll up our sleeves and do whatever it takes to get back on track.
I love you Thom Hartmann (in a completely platonic; you stir my political passions way; thank you).
