A while ago a caller to Thom's show described her hypothesis that President Obama has some emotional issues centering on his absent father that is affecting his relationship with the Republicans, especially with those in a leadership position.

Just so you know whether you want to dismiss my comments early or read them first: I am not a psychotherapist. I have not played one on TV. But I have read a great deal in the field (a B.A. in psychology & sociology). Also, I'm a 59-year-old mother of two sons (who've somehow managed to get through their adolescent years, altho' I nearly didn't), a professional in business, and fairly intelligent. Note: I, too, had an absent father after the age of 4. I'm quite aware of how the absence of a parent can affect you, even when there was no physical abuse.

After considering the caller's theory and review of the data (how President Obama keeps trying to get a connection to the Republican leadership against all past results and their expressed desire for his failure), I find myself tending to agree with that caller.

It appears from afar that President Obama is trying to reach his father (the Republicans) repeatedly trying to get their love - or at least acceptance - perhaps like he reached out to his own father with little hope of getting a response. The death of his father forever ended the potential of connecting with him (at least in the material world). Perhaps he has projected this need onto Republican leadership placed by him in the station of the "authoritarian leader". Perhaps Mr. Obama is more of an authoritarian follower than the non-authoritarian leader that his fans believe he is. If you don't know the terminology, read "The Authoritarians" by Bob Altemeyer at http://home.cc.umanitoba.ca/~altemey/ (free online access).

Someone (or many people) needs to bring this hypothesis to Mr. Obama's attention. As an introspective and intelligent man, perhaps he will re-assess how his childhood with an absent father may have affected him in this regard. Maybe if someone could bend Michelle's ear, perhaps she can approach him with it.

He needs to free himself from his need to get acceptance from his father and react to these slaves of a failed ideology (Republicans) who are beyond his help.

Forgive 2 further comments:

President Obama, when trying to communicate with the whole nation in the future, do not just do press conferences during the day when most people are at work. And, please use simple Charts and Graphs in your communications with the country with an explanation of the sources of the information. The lefties laughed when the right started to use them, but it is the only way to get across data. One such graph should show the fact that tax cuts to the wealthy have never resulted in an increase in tax revenues. Another recommended graph: the increasing wealth inequality between the classes - that the top 20% own 85% of the wealth, the bottom 40% have no wealth at all. A 3rd: how progressive income taxes work - how much extra tax persons making $20,000 a year, $60K per year, $150K per year, $250K per year, $1 million dollars, $5 million, $50 million, $100 million per year would pay.

We also need an American version of the BBC news system of the UK.

I'll end here before I explode - or start to cry.

How Do We Take Back the Military From the Billionaire Owned Military Industrial Complex?

Thom plus logo Democrats (Bernie & Lee) in the senate proposed legislation saying what the Constitution already says: that Trump can't go to war with Iran without congressional authorization. Every Republican on the committee, except Rand Paul, voted against it.
