Bad news for those who want to keep our public commons "public".
Toll roads are prohibited by law on the nation's interstate highways, but the de facto leader of the Democratic Party President Obama and the Governor of Missouri Jeremiah "Jay" Nixon see things a little differently.
In 2012, the federal government proposed that a private company take over the main interstate in Missouri and charge drivers a 15 cent per mile toll.
State Lawmakers balked at an outright surrender of Missouri's major highway without public input and put a toll road initiative on the ballot during the 2012 November election which failed to pass.
In the fall of 2014, a new highway funding ballot measure was voted on by Missourians; this time an effort to fund the state's roads through sales taxes failed miserably.
Two lame duck Democrats now are full blown Reaganomics supporters who advocate for toll roads to solve budget problems. Thirty years of tax breaks, massive outright giveaways to casinos, sports teams, and companies like Wal Mart have left the state in a vulnerable position and now the "free market" solution is sell an interstate to a foreign company.
Both parties now endorse toll roads, one vigorously and one tacitly. With Democrats like these, will your highway be next?
