Or...was it really stupidity...or just another way to purposely bilk taxpayers out of their money and freedoms?
I certainly don't catch everything in the news but here's one that slipped right past me.
He was an obese compulsive gambler and also a software engineer from Silicon Valley who sold the government on a piece of software that was supposed to detect terrorist threats. He's been outed as a flim flam man that took the taxpayers for millions and may have even resulted in getting many innocent people killed. No wonder our drones are killing so many civilians!
At one point, years ago during the Bush Administration, his software "detected" a whole bunch of airliner flights that it flagged as being another "attack on America". It resulted in the US ordering those flights to turn around and not enter the US. It really ticked off a lot of people.
Oh, yeah, he was also a friend with Dick Cheney so I guess it helped in convincing the CIA, NSA, and the Pentagon in spending millions on it. Think of how many millions...billions of dollars got flushed down the capitalist toilet in addition. Cui Bono?

A relevant chapter from James Risen's book: Pay Any Price: Greed, Power and Endless War that talks about this guy and other scoundrels in the so-called Military Indrustrial Spying Complex.
