In 2011 citizens of Ecuador won a $19 billion judgment against Chevron/Texaco for having polluted much of their countryside and water. To date Chevron has been using stalling tactics to avoid making payment. If Chevron will not heed the courts, perhaps they may notice a drop in sales revenues. This is not a big sacrifice since Chevron is rarely a good value, although it may be convenient for some.

They aren't alone in delaying settlement payments but I think the larger issue is that most people, when they go to Super America, Holiday etc, have no idea where the gas is coming from and therefore have no way of knowing how to boycott Chevron. These companies make huge campaign donations but probably more importantly they also buy commercial spots, they buy politicians and media favor. One has to wonder why else a company that sells a generic product, indistinguishable from its competitors, feels a need to buy commercials if not to influence the media with their dollars.

People can boycott Chevron and Texaco stations. I do not think one can do much about private label sales. They advertise to convince gullible consumers that there is a difference.
