I appreciate your comments regarding State employee benefits. Instead of bringing everyone but the CEO's down-bring other's up. There needs to be a reality check regarding pay and beneifts. I am a social worker and topped out on the pay scale after 5 years. We rarely get a COLA raise and when the budget is in trouble the minimal COLA raise goes away. I have 4 children and I can assure you every dollar of my $50,000 a year salary goes right back into my local economy. The politicians and media outlets that are discussing this issue must not be raising a family. I have a mortgage that is well within my means and no car payment or credit card debt. I have 2 kids in college and 2 at home. Every month I have to hope nothing breaks down so I can continue to have money to live on. I have a very difficult and draining job and interact with the worst elements of society. I don't feel like i need to apologize for health care and retirement benefits. My youngest child was born with a rare benign tumor in his head and neck. He has to have ongoing medical care as well as a couple major surgeries. Would it be a better scenerio if we went bancrupt in order to get him the medical care he needs to live? Why is it so difficult to understand that we all ARE paying for the lack of affordable and accessible health care. Now we are going to balance the nations debt by villifying government employees. I know alot of Americans are living in a much worse situation than I am but why should I become one of them. I see the tremendous poverty that so many Americans live in everyday while I am doing my job. Americans need to wake up.
