House Republicans, lead by Rep. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., introduced a legislative rider to the Interior spending bill last week that would block the Obama administration from imposing a long-term ban on new uranium mining across 1 million acres of public lands surrounding Grand Canyon National Park.

This wrong-headed, industry-driven rider comes with a cadre of other destructive riders that slash spending for resource management, block the administration from funding environmental programs related to climate change and remove money for endangered species programs.

In the next few days, Congress will vote on gutting safeguards for the Grand Canyon.

Never let a crisis go to waste and if you want at least something, start by asking for the Sun, the Moon and the Stars and negotiate down to more than you should have in the first place.
