This from DailyKos:
President Obama is touring the country, talking about the economy, job creation, and income inequality. But his administration is negotiating with Republicans in a last-ditch attempt to strike a “grand bargain” to cut Medicare.
Since becoming law in 1965, Medicare has lifted millions of American seniors out of poverty and kept millions more from falling into it. President Obama can’t expect us to take his talk about income inequality seriously as his closest advisers are discussing cutting the most successful health care program in American history.
Tell President Obama: Medicare works. Stop pursuing a grand bargain that will do little more than hurt seniors and undercut the most successful health care program in America.
To President Obama:
On July 30, 1965, President Lyndon Johnson signed the Social Security Amendments establishing Medicare and Medicaid. In the 48 years since, Medicare has lifted millions of seniors out of poverty and kept millions more from falling into it.
Now, as you’re touring the country talking about the challenges that face our country today—and specifically the economy, jobs, and income inequality—your administration continues to negotiate cuts to this vital program that would hurt millions of American seniors.
It’s wrong and it’s got to stop.
Simply put, Medicare works. Stop pursuing a grand bargain that will hurt seniors and undercut the most successful healthcare program in America.
