If it were not but for the Oil and Gas Industry New Orleans would never have been flooded by Hurricane Katrina. In an effort to increase their profit the Oil and Gas Industry facilitated Katrina’s flooding of New Orleans. Leadership of the local Federal Reserve did not help the matter.

This subject of this study is also covered by “Vultures’ Picnic” by patriotic author Greg Palast.

A deteriorated infrastructure, and poor planning and design by the Army Corps of Engineers also added to the problem, and the flooding was more manmade than hurricane related. Naturally the 9th Ward (mostly colored) would be left out of immediate response, by what seemed like a dismissive Bush Administration.

Blackwater was called in to ensure "law and order," while the "Big Easy" police gunned down innocent civilians. The tragedy in the Super Dome and on the bridge will never be forgotten, along with the sick patients who seemed to be sacrificed. The bloated bodies floating in the water is an image I will always remember.

I had the good fortune of being stationed in New Orleans from 1969 to 1972, and enjoyed the food and music. I made friends with a lot of black artists back then, and we often met at Bonaparte’s Retreat. New Orleans has always been my favorite U.S. city.

They really did a great job on the time-lapse showing the man-made changes.

So it will become The Island of New Orleans and inland realtors can start listing their properties as good investments since they will be coveted Beach Front properties before too long. Very nice for the grandkids, no?

What Do Democrats Really Want?

Thom plus logo Thomas Friedman, the confused billionaire, told us decades ago that "free trade" is what made the Lexus a successful product when, in fact, it was decades of Japanese government subsidies and explicit tariffs that did so.
