From the Statesman Journal May 25th

EUGENE — A Christmas Valley, Ore., man has been indicted by a Lane County grand jury in the March traffic death of a commercial truck driver killed when several large bales of hay fell off a passing big rig.
Oregon State Police arrested 43-year-old Bonnie Puckett on Monday. He’s charged with criminally negligent homicide and felony failure to perform the duties of a driver involved in a crash.

Puckett was booked into the Lane County Jail.
On March 4, investigators say several 1,000-pound hay bales fell off a westbound hay rig Puckett was driving on Oregon Highway 58 and struck an eastbound truck driven by 37-year-old Gregory Muller of Sparks, Nev. The impact demolished Muller’s truck cab and killed him.
The hay truck did not stop.

Obvious answer- because Bonnie Puckett doesn't have tens of billions of dollars to give to lawyers and PR firms and lobbyists and corporate whore politicians to keep him in the public's good graces.

But beyond my snarky answer, there is no difference...except for killing 10 fewer people in a smaller way.

To paraphrase Joseph Stalin: one death is a tragedy; 11 deaths, and creating a huge dead zone in the Gulf, is a statistic.

Thom plus logo Right now the United States and the world are facing four massive trends that, in combination, we haven't faced since the 1920s. We are seeing the rise of a new and brutal form of governance with extraordinary industrial capacity and power in China, much as Nazi Germany rose in Europe.
