Gotta wonder is there isn't a degree of culling going on with the boomers. I recall years ago the dire warnings about how the boomers would become a drain on social security and medical services because there are just so many of them and not enough money or younger people contributing. to offset the cost of this aging group.

Many boomers have lost their jobs and their retirement savings, along with medical healthcare accessibilty/insurance. Many of these same folks have also lost their homes or any equity they may have spent years building. Age discrimination is a real issue, as many over 50 will testify to; it's the worse kept secret in town. I personally know many formerly employed hard working men and women over 50 who cannot find work. One women is trained in leasing management and has been routinely passed over for jobs in property management in favor of younger inexperienced candidates with no training or background to speak of. We all seem to know this story too well and it's about age and covering employees with healthcare benefits and not wanting to absorb those expenses they believe goes hand in hand with older employees. So what are the boomers expected to do, go off somewhere to quietly die ? What does this say about our society and where it's headed ? Simply put, it's about survival of the fittest and a nations resources being directed toward those deemed to be the fittest.

So if you are over 50 and lost your job, house, savings and healthcare benefits, and your unemployment benefits are ending, guess what? You are hereby cut loose. Good luck and God Bless America.

There's always the military...they'll take anybody.

My understanding is that the Social Security fund has been depleted mostly since the Reagan era and there are "IOUs" in the fund that the money will be repaid based upon "the good faith and credit of the United States." I choose to argue- pay back the money, then there is no Social Security crisis! And if they won't pay it back let's warn China. All those treasury bills they own are also based upon "the good faith and credit of the United States." If the American government won't honor it's own citizens they won't honor the Chinese.
