‘Naturalized’ citizenship is a gift given, in my opinion, but a social contract offered (which requires instruction and imbursement). Preventing trespasses (now net zero), which is not concomitant with immigration reform itself, has involved the militarization of our borders – which must be reassessed, I’m sure. I heard a proponent of ‘incrementally comprehensive’ reform argue against imperfect (or ‘empty’) promises he would not support, which strikes me as obstructive of agreement (but not surprising).
An “emergency manager” who usurps city governance - rather than counsels compulsory assessments to be made for fiscal reform to - per argumentum baculinum is unacceptable, in my opinion. Such methods used in many cash-strapped cities, to avoid the tedious duties of “self-governance” should not be implemented for the simple reason that one might shortcut texting keystrokes (time-saving), because the time and effort required is essential to the process (sausage making). For instance, the state of Michigan refuses to pay their debt to money-strapped Detroit but their present city management has not proposed “collection” alternatives. Unfortunately, when the ‘iron boot’ approach to budgeting complications is employed then it is the whole of democracy that is trodden. Paternalism and authoritarian prepotency (rule) are not acceptable, I say.
Why Try …?
If no errant drops from heaven fall,
and love fills the pure heart full -
No place stays still for my artless gall then, or reason for failure at all.
The courtroom drama of the Zimmerman trial is mere summer distraction, I fear, and tedious repeat of a familiar story to most black folk. Can we be distracted from the problem of profiling, criminalization and marginalization that the Zimmerman case should rightly highlight by the shiny object of conviction, I wonder?
Those who die in anger are not “saved” from it.
Living in hate cannot even the score.
Forswearing goodness won’t conjure up an end to suffering.
No love labor’s lost.
Summertime, but the living is relentless trying, fish is too expensive and cotton from exploited Indian manufacture is high; if daddy ‘aint rich then mamma ‘aint either, so hush little baby and …
For Another Day
‘Futures’ have no meaning except now,
when what’s happening never was nor just could be –
The times pass by before we know it, always getting out of hand…so,
If I don’t see 2073, again, remind me what I missed.
