I am always railing at how stupid the American electorate is, but the truth is Americans only know what they have been taught, which for the most part has been lies orchestrated by the establishment owned corporate media, that controls over 90% of all the information Americans read, see or hear daily. Information of half truths, mistruths, outright lies and lies of omission or just fluff. Information deliberately tailored to support the agenda of the establishment ruling class one percent, that control 90 per cent of Americas wealth..

One source of truth in America is 'Free Speech TV' , who operates yearly on a budget that is less than the yearly salary of just one of corporate talking heads.

"Americans only know what they have been taught, which for the most part has been lies orchestrated by the establishment owned corporate media" All the more reason not to waste time trying to be informed by the mainstream media. Consider what the typical local newscast consists of. Housefires, traffic accidents, sports, warnings that it may either snow, rain or thunder, sports results and personalities etc.. Almost never are truly important stories given the lead, and very often they are not discussed at all. Why waste time on such drivel? Even when important issues are mentioned they are given scanty, slanted or superficial coverage. Mainstream "news analysts" and "news commentators" are usually special pleaders for corporate interests, and when interviewees disagree with the corporate line, the talking heads resort to shouting them down, trying to drown them in a flurry of contradicting "experts", or after the guest has left, try to give an "authoritative" analysis that now conveniently can not be rebutted. Look elsewhere, as ZAP recommends, for serious coverage of the news.

The USSR had a totally controlled media. I think it was Solzhenitsyn who said that the key to the end of the USSR was the invention of the mimeograph, because this was a cheap way to communicate with many people under the government radar. It makes no sense to blame the corporate media for the truth not getting out in the Internet age.

If the progressive message isn't being heard I would think there is three possible reasons.

1) We are doing a horrible job of expressing it.

2) These things take time people don't change their minds on long held beliefs overnight.

3) We may be wrong on some key part of our suggestions.

Awe BREXIT that resounding defeat of the Economic Union by the British, who are now being protrayed as right wing racists by the quaking British establishment media. Yes if you were to believe the British press 17 million racist Brits just voted to leave the EU so they can shut their borders and cruelly treat minorities. The establish liars have been joined by a corrus of world wide establishment liars all pissed they just lost billions of dollars because the UK voter has finally said enough to Brussels Belgium running their thousand year old country for the sole benefit of a very rich few.

The main stream media is owned and operated by the 1%. You hear what they want you to hear. You do not hear what they do not want you to hear. Republicans constantly complain about the liberal media when in fact it barely exists. It is the Conservative 1% owned and operated media to be aware of. It is constantly brainwashing Americans.

Again even if you are right, and I seem to find other opinions than the 1% because I look for them, why and how did the people rise up against the USSR and East German governments? How did the people of the colonies of the British Empire come to reject that Empire in the first half of the 20th century? Those countries had far more repressive media than ours.

No, we are either doing a rotten job of expressing our point of view, are not patience enough or we are wrong in some critical areas. I think it is all three.

For example, people, in general, and Americans, in particular, don't mind other people doing well, so this whole, "hate them because they are rich" argument turns more people against your ideas than draws people to your side. Make it more about making all people rich and poor behave morally and I think more people will listen to you.

And again, free and open international trade is in general a good thing, the current form that is being pushed in unfair and immoral, but International trade is one of the cornerstones of trying to build a more peaceful world. Most people intuitively know that trading ideas, culture and products is good, so don't attack all international trade, just trade deals that are unfair.

And once more people don't change long held beliefs overnight. Give it time, be respectful, and keep explaining.

It is very true that the majority of Americans only get their news through corporate sources. The right get daily inputs of violent ideology, racism, and anti-American rhetoric. Fox, not the news, is the primary offender of daily false reports and exaggerated claims of pending failure. As for the rest they are only broadcasting those items that are non-controversial. They refuse to discuss global warming, the perils of the TPP, the racism of the republican party and freedom of the internet. Problem is the majority of American voters do not pay attention to these issues on the internet. They are only concerned about somebody getting something they are not. Education is not an issue to them, they finished the third grade and proud of it. They just do not want to know the facts, they want to believe everybody else is just wrong.

This is 2016, but you keep referring to the old USSR for comparison to somehow justifying crimes of todays United States. The USSR was dissolved Dec 26 2001, a quarter of a centuury ago.

As for the American so called media, it is nothing but a tool of the rich establishment who control America through the power of their wealth and privilege. The US media is therefore nothing but a propaganda arm of the US government who kowtow to the rich and powerful corporatists who in fact run the bloody country.

Helen you are decades out of sync, you still believe the fantasy that America is democratic republic. But you know what Helen , your contribution is needed because you represent silent Americans you are delusional as you.

That is why I keep repeating it. Republicans cannot figure it out.

Democrats Should Steal Trump's Thunder on Trade

It's time to run bigger, better and harder on trade policies.
