"The American Liberty League was an American political organization formed in 1934, primarily of wealthy (right wing)business elites and prominent political figures because they opposed the New Deal of Franklin D. Roosevelt."

"Retired Marine Corps Major General Smedley Butler alleged in testimony to the House Un-American Activities Committee in November 1934 that Gerald C. MacGuire (a bond salesman) and leading figures in the League had been involved in a plot to overthrow Franklin Roosevelt."

" In 1933, Marine Corps Maj.-Gen. Smedley Butler was approached by a wealthy and secretive group of industrialists and bankers, including Prescott Bush, George W Bush's grandfather, who asked Smedley Butler to command a 500,000 strong rogue army of veterans that would help stage a coup to topple then President Franklin Delano Roosevelt." The plan was to assassinate Roosevelt if he resisted.

"The conspirators were operating under the umbrella of a front group ( financial backers) called the American Liberty League, which included many families that are still household names today, including Heinz, Colgate, Birds Eye and General Motors, (including Prescott Bush) ."

According to the BBC, the plotters intended to impose a fascist takeover and "Adopt the policies of Hitler and Mussolini to beat the great depression."

"The Committee's final report in February 1935 said that MacGuire and others had discussed and planned attempts to establish a "fascist organization" or "fascist army" in the United States."

President Franklin D Roosevelt, desperately wanted government approval of his 'NEW DEAL ' in an attempt to relieve the suffering of Americans during the great depression. FDR therefore struck a private deal with the Republican Party and the right wing plotters, that their attempt at the overthrown of his government and their treason punishable by death, would be covered up, if he got co-opertion enacting his New Deal.

That is the main reason , perhaps the only reason Americans today have such social programs as , seniors pensions (Social security), unemployment insurance, FHA - Federal Housing , plus dozens of other programs established to help the average American. I might add that every aspect of FDR's 'New Deal' was opposed by the republican party of the day and ever since there has been a co ordinated attempt to dismantle all of the new deal .

How Do We Take Back the Military From the Billionaire Owned Military Industrial Complex?

Thom plus logo Democrats (Bernie & Lee) in the senate proposed legislation saying what the Constitution already says: that Trump can't go to war with Iran without congressional authorization. Every Republican on the committee, except Rand Paul, voted against it.
